Descendants of Clement MINOR

Notes

Mary Polly MERRITT

Name unknown; but because of the name given the son of "Clapp," it is
considered probable that her surname was "Clapp."  There were Clapps living in
the area at that time.  She died soon, probably of childbirth complications,
leaving Charles with a baby boy.

Charles entered into a common-law marriage with Mary.  It is thought that
Charles probably hired Polly to take care of the baby and keep house for him
and as time passed their relationship changed gradully, eventually evolving
into common-law marriage.  Not long before their baby was due, Polly learned
that Charles was involved with another young lady who was also expecting his
baby.  Their "marriage" came to an abrupt end.
Mary was daughter of Gilbert Merritt and Elizabeth Green.
